This book made me crave ramen。 Not that cheap stuff with the seasoning packs, I mean real ramen。 Sadly, I only know of two places and they're over an hour away。 For all of you Domics fans, this is the volume with the mini ramen。But that aside, my heart broke, watching Kaguya struggle to just go see some damn fireworks with her friends。 But the ending was great。In other news, Shirogane learns how to handle fish (both touching them and gutting them)。 This book made me crave ramen。 Not that cheap stuff with the seasoning packs, I mean real ramen。 Sadly, I only know of two places and they're over an hour away。 For all of you Domics fans, this is the volume with the mini ramen。But that aside, my heart broke, watching Kaguya struggle to just go see some damn fireworks with her friends。 But the ending was great。In other news, Shirogane learns how to handle fish (both touching them and gutting them)。 。。。more

TLDR: I enjoyed this part and it has some 'payoff' for readers who have been reading the story for a little while。 Of the 5 volumes, this one is probably my favorite and does an excellent job at pushing the story forward and developing our characters。Longer Review: This volume is quite incredible。 The reason for this is because of how well I think each character acts, and yet still remain perfectly in character。 I credit the author a lot for being able to keep his characters tied to their own ru TLDR: I enjoyed this part and it has some 'payoff' for readers who have been reading the story for a little while。 Of the 5 volumes, this one is probably my favorite and does an excellent job at pushing the story forward and developing our characters。Longer Review: This volume is quite incredible。 The reason for this is because of how well I think each character acts, and yet still remain perfectly in character。 I credit the author a lot for being able to keep his characters tied to their own rules of how they should behave in certain situations。 The opening 5 stories beautifully display exactly why it is that our characters are in their situations (of course I am speaking of our main characters: Kaguya and Miyuki)。 The author does a good job of having both the characters' strengths and weaknesses play out。 The problems the characters face are due to their own weaknesses that they will need to overcome and the tools they attempt to use to overcome them are all of their own strengths (whether or not they succeed is for you to read the novel and found out!)。 I honestly thought that with how strong the opening 5 stories were, it would be unlikely that the latter half of the volume could compare。 However, I still really enjoyed the second half。 The stories still continue to show the development of each of the characters。 The comedy is pretty good and, in the context of the story, it all makes sense。 One other small note that I wanted to highlight was that I read some of the reviews that others left for this novel and others。 I noticed that some had complaints about some of the main characters。 Some that I saw were that Kaguya, Chika, or Shirogane were a bit unlikeable。 However, I feel that if you took the time to read all 5 volumes up to this point that each character is likeable to some extent。 While I may not love every moment that Chika comes in, I do feel she is a nice element for the story。 In addition to this, while Kaguya and Shirogane seem cold, I do feel you can begin to understand their reasoning for making the decisions they do。 This volume specifically helps to explain some of Kaguya's backstory。 While it is not a fully fleshed out backstory, it does begin to give you an idea of why she is the way that she is。 I keep saying it, but I genuinely believe this volume is the best one so far and I really enjoyed it。 I would recommend this series to anyone thinking about trying out a manga series。 。。。more

This particular volume spans from the end of the first season anime adaptation, as well as continues on with more quirky and humorous chapters。 I hope they get to air in the coming season soon, as I'm anticipating the story shoving the two stubborn MCs closer! Kaguya-sama: Love is War Volume 5 is another great continuation of this series, where Miyuki and Kaguya battle over who will confess to the other first。 This is such a fun series! In all honesty these two would be so cute together, and would be together by now, if they would communicate - but then it wouldn't be as much fun for us。 These two are so dramatic and adorable, and it's a blast watching what they get into。 We got a closer look at Kaguya's life, and I really feel for her。 I love the fri Kaguya-sama: Love is War Volume 5 is another great continuation of this series, where Miyuki and Kaguya battle over who will confess to the other first。 This is such a fun series!

This volume is a near-perfect mix of sweet and funny。

Found this one especially sweet and amusing。 Definitely had some of my favorite "battles" in this one。 I think some people might get annoyed with Kaguya and Miyuki by now, but I guess you could say I'm invested and it's just so cute and silly I must see how this all pans out。 Found this one especially sweet and amusing。 Definitely had some of my favorite "battles" in this one。 I think some people might get annoyed with Kaguya and Miyuki by now, but I guess you could say I'm invested and it's just so cute and silly I must see how this all pans out。 。。。more

I cried。 I cried over Kaguya's childhood, I cried for Kaguya's desire to be with her friends when her overprotective family intervened, I cried when her friends did everything they could to help her, and I cried when she got her wish。 Her struggle for independence despite knowing her place in her family is difficult to watch because I could feel the loneliness and isolation in certain scenes。 I could feel the heartbreak in her voice as she tried to convince herself she was fine with how things a I cried。 I cried over Kaguya's childhood, I cried for Kaguya's desire to be with her friends when her overprotective family intervened, I cried when her friends did everything they could to help her, and I cried when she got her wish。 Her struggle for independence despite knowing her place in her family is difficult to watch because I could feel the loneliness and isolation in certain scenes。 I could feel the heartbreak in her voice as she tried to convince herself she was fine with how things are。 But I could feel her joy when she realized she had people around her who would work hard for her despite her faults。 And that feeling was 110% worth it。And of course, the chapters afterwards were hilarious and a joy to read。 But, you know, the feels are what really matter。 。。。more

Four and a half stars。This is a review of the entire series up to this point, including some chapters of volume 6。 The main trio of president Shirogane, secretary Fujiwara and whatever the hell Shinomiya does in the student council found its missing piece with treasurer Ishigami, a depressive realist with a vindictive streak; for example, when discussing with the president which club funds to decrease during the recession, Ishigami insisted in hurting the sports clubs, and even instituting a tax Four and a half stars。This is a review of the entire series up to this point, including some chapters of volume 6。 The main trio of president Shirogane, secretary Fujiwara and whatever the hell Shinomiya does in the student council found its missing piece with treasurer Ishigami, a depressive realist with a vindictive streak; for example, when discussing with the president which club funds to decrease during the recession, Ishigami insisted in hurting the sports clubs, and even instituting a tax on happy couples, "because it's unfair that they are happy when I'm not"。 Despite his occasional bout of irrationality, he's a mild-mannered good guy, a genius with numbers, yet unambitious and more than a bit blind to social situations。 He keeps stepping on social landmines in a council where some subjects simply shouldn't be brought up。 Ishigami is deathly afraid of the titular Kaguya Shinomiya, who is the heir of a huge corporation; we are introduced to the treasurer as he tries to quit because he's convinced the girl will murder him soon。 Shinomiya usually just resents how the treasurer brings up romantic subjects that she just doesn't want to address, but because the girl falls into anti-social moods and has the money and means to hire hitmen and get away with it, it's fairly rational for anyone to fear falling on her bad side。 In any case, the treasurer is a perfect counterpart to the joyous, carefree secretary, while simultaneously a counterpart to both the president's and Shinomiya's pride and need to be seen as hyperfunctional。The absurd situations that the council members go through keep making me grin and even laugh at times, and the idiosyncratic ways the main characters react to stuff keep everything fresh, even though I've already seen a couple dozen variations of Kaguya's face and her "o kawaii koto"。 They have grown quite a bit, and shown painful parts of their personality。 For example, when the kaichou Shirogane (view spoiler)[attempts to get better at volleyball so he won't make an ass of himself in front of the students and particularly Kaguya, we find out he's beyond clumsy; he keeps sliding involuntarily or slapping himself on the face attempting to serve。 Previously his pride wouldn't have allowed him to seek any help, yet once the secretary Fujiwara appears he lets her into his private disgraces, and together they go through hell to make him a passable player even for a single practice match。 That opens up future situations in which the president seeks Fujiwara's help so he can get over his absolute inability to sing, and to touch and dissect fish。 Fujiwara even learns to assert herself, as she resists going through hell again to solve another one of the president's phobias or an appalling lack of skill。 However, Fujiwara's also developing maternal instinct usually wins out with funny results。 One of my favorite sequences of the anime adaptation involves the volleyball sequence; unfortunately there seem to be no complete videos of it on YouTube (hide spoiler)]。Kaguya also grows some。 She started out in the council as a brooding ice queen, but a year later she lets her precious colleagues in。 Around 60 chapters into the series, she can barely recognize herself as she attempts to befriend Shirogane's cool little sister, or worries about celebrating the president's birthday properly。 She's shown that under her façade of hyperfunctionality and nobility, she's a soft girl with an open wound after a lifelong lack of familiar love and guidance (when she goes out to watch a movie or buy clothes, we learn that she had never done any of it by herself), and wants to be able to tear down her own mental walls and freely enjoy the company of the people dearest to her。 There's a particular sequence that elevated this series from a particularly good rom-com into a moving story: (view spoiler)[both Shinomiya and Shirogane spend almost their entire summer miserable, waiting by the phone and hoping that the other will call or write first, yet their pride doesn't allow it。 At the tail end of that summer there's a festival that involves fireworks; Kaguya had never been taken to see them, and wished to get together with her council crew and watch them for the first time。 She makes a Twitter post to the effect of "I wish I could see the fireworks with everybody"; a shocking admission from someone who keeps her own needs to herself。 She ends up escaping her mansion alone to catch up with her pals, not only to fail at finding them but also at watching the fireworks。 She ends up in an alleyway sobbing about it; another wish involving other people that she doesn't manage to fulfill。 Kaichou Shirogane, who had read her tweet, had learned that she had escaped from her mansion, and had been frantically biking around to find her, finds Kaguya and leads her along with the rest of the council members to a cab。 They race to a neighboring town/district where some fireworks display had been delayed。 They get to witness it, except for Kaguya, who can't get her eyes off the president。 Shirogane spent the following days dwelling in embarrassment for his brashness (hide spoiler)]。Regarding the anime adaptation, it's been a while since I watched it, but as I was reading the chapters I didn't recognize about 2/5 of the situations。 As the characters grow, the situations get less episodic and carry some consequences, even mild。 There's an instance in which Shinomiya (view spoiler)[forces the terrified treasurer to study for a test he was going to fail (and he didn't care because of his general lack of ambition)。 To reward him for his efforts, she offers him pieces of cake that look as if they came from a wedding; a complete non sequitur unless you read a previous chapter in which Kaguya decides to buy for the president's birthday an enormous cake that suspiciously seems to belong in a wedding, only to end up regretting it。 She forced herself and her main servant to eat most of it, but couldn't finish it (hide spoiler)]。In any case, it's great, clever, often surprising, endearing and wholesome。 I'm following this trainwreck to its probably funny end。 。。。more

Really goodI bought this volume since the anime's first season ended on a chapter in this。 I love it! I binged the whole season on Netflix today and spent the rest of the day reading the manga so 。。。 I guess you can say the story is pretty gripping haha。 Also I usually hate the whole romance genre but for some reason this feels very different。 It's more fun than it is lovey-dovey。 The character arcs play out perfectly and not as per convenience。 I love how well they show the growth of each perso Really goodI bought this volume since the anime's first season ended on a chapter in this。 I love it!
